Since I haven't written in a while, let me start by saying, Merry Christmas & Happy New Year...
Now, that's out of the way, let me tell you about my latest adventures.
At Christmas, my parents got Allison, Olivia & I a Wii. I have to admit, it's an awesome console! After Xmas, I started looking at for accessories for our new gaming console. The first thing we bought was the Wii Fit Plus. That is really fun! We've played in some cases where Allison has done nothing but laugh at me for an hour straight because of how foolish I look.
The second thing that I bought was a Wii gun adapter, so that when I buy Call of Duty, I would get into the game. Well, didn't that cause a whole other set of issues.... Lets just say that Codiac RCMP had to get involved... That's a whole other blog post.
So, I kept my eyes open for sales of games & such... While Allison & I were shopping at Zellers, we stopped in the gaming section & started to look at the display case. I noticed that Call of Duty, World at War was on sale for $39, $20 savings... I quickly grabbed that & headed for the cash. When the cashier rang it in, the bar code rang it in at $19 (technically $40 savings) instead of the $39... what a steal! (No RCMP involvement this time)
The New Year has also treated us well so far. We've been lucky enough to not have any major snow storms yet, so I don't have to worry about getting up really early to snowblow the driveway to get out.
In case you were wondering what the story was behind my Ipod, nothing has chnaged... it's lost to me forever! Kinda sucks, but I've learned my lesson!
On a last note, I've now become a permanent Ops Manager with NBEMS. I'm really happy about that! The only down side about my job, that I've noticed is that it takes me away from Firefighting. I find I don't have as many opportunities to go to calls, either because I'm at work or they are all medical calls.

Anything new wtih you?
Well, not a whole lot is happening on my side of things, but Olivia is pretty busy. She now has a tooth, she's sitting up, rolling over..... what's next - walking i think! LOL
She's also eating - actually self-feeding. She grabs the spoon & puts it into her mouth & everything! It's really awesome to see! We where a little worried that because of her left arm, she would be a little late in the rolling over & stuff, but she's right on time. Everyone is really pleased with her progress.
It's hard to beleive, and I'm sure that I say this every month, but it's already been 6mths. WOW!!!! I can't beleive how fast it's really going by! We are also waiting to hear from a neurologist from Halifax who is going to evaluate Olivia & suggest if we still have to go to Toronto or not.
We are pretty much hoping that the answer is no, but you never know & we are prepared to do what it takes in order to make sure that she has functionality of her arm.
Talking about functionality, we had some company this weekend. Our friends from St-Leonard where down & we had them over on Friday & Saturday. It was fun. I wasn't able to stick around too much unfortunetly because we had 4 fire calls - 2 grass fires - in a very short period of time.
I'm certainly not complaining. I got to drive our Tanker truck at the 2 grass fires. That truck is old & really needs to be replaced, but it's supposed to be done soon.
Zoe, their daughter is growing up really fast! She now has a baby brother who is 10 days older then Olivia & he's a little monster. He eats like there's no tomorrow.
Well, i think it's time to hit the road... gonna head home & get ready for training tonight!

3 Steps Done
Well, I know that I promised an earlier post; however, I just got busy at work & I didn't have time to post, but here we are!
I've got the written exam, knowledge exam and my physical exam all completed & I will be going to an interview on Friday morning.
I'm certainly keeping my fingers crossed and will let you all know what happens as soon as I know what's going on.
Other then that, nothing else to interesting is going on other then our Baby Shower on Saturday. Should be fun & we'll have tones of pics....

Resume has been dropped off
Well, like the title says, my resume got dropped off & I have my times set up for my testing. They are as follows:
Written exam: Oct 12, 13h30
Knowledge exam: Oct 13, 14hrs
Physical (aka: DND Test): Oct 16, 15h30
I'm really anxious & I know that I'm going to do well, but I hope that it's well enough to get a job. I have actually respondided to medical calls & I have not been as nervous as I was in the past - which to me - is a great thing!
Also, this weekend, was the start of Fire Prevention week. It was a gorgeous day & I got to drive our heavy rescue truck in the parade.

FD Training
WoW, I konw that it's been a couple of weeks since I had my Fire Dept training, but I thought I'd bring you up to speed anyways!
On Friday, Sept 14th, we headed out to Miramichi to participate in the annual Fire Training. It's a blast! Classes start early on Saturday, so that's why we head up early. There's 8 of us from Dieppe that went to the training.
On Saturday Morning, myself, Jean Richard (a casual with Dieppe Fire Dept) and Marc Cormier (a fellow volunteer & Prison Guard) had flashover training.
The quick and easy definition of a flashover is when all the objects in a room ignite at the same time.... It's a little more complicated then that, but you get the drift!
So, we sit through class hosted by HRM Fire Dept and we go through the basics of fire behavior during a flashover.
After the class is when all the fun started! We went into a trailer and watch fire appear out of nowhere. I'm serious.... when the smoke reached a certain temp, the gases in the smoke would ignite (thus the flashover).
We ended up staying approx 20 mins in the trailer.
In the afternoon, we did LAST training (Large Area Search Team) and it was pretty interest. We searched a large Gym for RescueRandy. It was an interesting method of doing a search... we ended up basically being tied to one another.
When we got back to the hall, we noticed that the trucks where already gone... We just guessed that they had a call, but when we checked the fax, we noticed that they had a House Fire. Well, the blood is pumping now!
So, the DC (Deputy Chief) radios the fire scene & they are going crazy for help! Apparently some of the guys had gotten lost in the basement of the house and 1 was taken to hospital. It was a crazy scene!
Well, we ended up going to the scene & helped with overhaul operations - to make sure that the fire was out & what not.
So, all in all, I had a great weekend of training!
The other good news is that Dieppe Fire Department is hiring - 2 Full Time & 2 Casual Firefighters (to replace the 2 casuals that are going to get the full times....)
So, I'm applying & hoping that I get in! Keep your fingers crossed!
